The productivity hack you never knew you needed
Listening to music is a quick and simple productivity hack to help boost focus and concentration throughout the day.
I’m personally not someone who can work in silence.
Working from home can bring about some unwanted distractions like lawnmowers, kids screaming in the street or neighbours having an argument.
I’m therefore never without my trusted set of AirPods so I can drown out the outside noise and enter my zone of genius.
I prefer to have music playing or a cheeky Netflix show on in the background.
I also love podcasts but I tend to save these for my morning routine or when I’m in the gym as I’m forever going back to listen to the points again.
And like with everything, it seems that the music I listen to is very dependent on my mood and how I’m feeling.
Most days it’s Taylor Swift but lately, I’ve been feeling super nostalgic and have been listening to Ziggy Alberts. His albums were my soundtrack while I was travelling through South East Asia and still provide me with so much inspiration.
Though I love to sing along to Taylor and Ziggy, I hate how I’m easily distracted by songs with lyrics.
So my preferred music genre to work to is instrumental.
Top Spotify playlists to keep you focused and calm throughout the day
1 | Binaural Beats: Focus
Binaural Beats are brainwave frequency sounds and are proven to enhance focus & concentration as well as reduce stress.
Listen to Binaural Beats: Focus during your deep work hours. I guarantee they will make you procrastinate less while you tackle big tasks.
2 | Calming Acoustic
Calming Acoustic is probably one of my favourite Spotify playlists ever!
It’s full of mellow acoustic tracks and is the most relaxing playlist I listen to. It even calms me down when my brain is in overdrive and I’m filled with anxious thoughts.
So listen to Calming Acoustic at any point in the day when you feel overwhelmed or stressed.
And start to feel zen after just a couple of songs.
3 | This Is: The Piano Guys
I’m rather new to The Piano Guys but after I listened to Bless The Broken Road for the first time I was hooked.
Their piano covers of hit songs go perfectly with a slow morning.
I’m forever spending the first couple of hours of my day listening to them.
4 | Lo-Fi Beats
Similar to binaural beats, this Lo-Fi Beats playlist is great to listen to while you work.
The low beats help me to zone out so I am completely focused on my work. They also help nurture my creative flow.
5 | Chilled Jazz
Jazz music is definitely up there with my favourite music genres.
It’s mellow, chilled and perfect to end the day on.
Chilled Jazz is my go-to playlist which I unwind to in the evening while I’m cooking and drinking wine.
6 | Instrumental Study
These soft piano tunes are enough to de-stress you after a long day and leave you feeling relaxed.
I always listen to Instrumental Study at night, while I’m reading in bed. It calms my mind and I have no issues falling asleep.
7 | This Is: Vitamin String Quartet
In the last week of 2020, I binged watched Bridgerton on Netflix and instantly became obsessed with the Vitamin String Quartet.
Their string covers of hit songs were so refreshing and it was the playlist I needed to get me through January and those pesky winter blues.
Listen to VSQ the next time you are feeling down as I promise you, they will lift up your spirits.
8 | Reading Music
This instrumental playlist is the latest one I have stumbled across and I’m already loving it.
Reading Music lasts for a total of 5 hours and is pure relaxation. Think home spa and meditation room.
Final thoughts
These Spotify playlists see me through the whole day from morning to evening and help me concentrate while I work.
