Dear reader,
This month I’m chatting to Jacqueline from Well n Strong about work-life balance and her holistic approach to wellness.
I absolutely love Jacqueline’s content on Instagram and Pinterest. In fact, social media was where we found each other!
Her infographics are quirky and refreshing (in a sea of posts that all look the same), but they’re also super informative.
Jacqueline has the ability to take nutrition and research-based information and make it fun!
I really enjoyed doing this Q&A and I hope you also find comfort in Jacqueline’s words and they inspire you in some way.
Enjoy,
♡ Thalia xx

About Jacqueline
I’m a wellness writer and certified holistic nutritionist, who is passionate about integrative medicine.
I resorted to holistic approaches for healing to reverse some of my own health problems and to help my mom battle cancer.
I’m a graduate of Babson College where I researched and wrote a thesis that supports a more integrative treatment approach in our healthcare system, and am a strong advocate of incorporating complementary therapies into conventional treatment methods.
As I discovered the healing powers of food as medicine, both through my own experience as well as in my research, I developed a desire to share what I learned with others.
So, I started a blog called WellnStrong.
I believe in a holistic approach to wellness that addresses the root causes of illness, not just the suppression of symptoms.
More on my well-being journey
My mom was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer when I was 13.
Her first diagnosis was the catalyst that launched me into researching the world of complementary medicine.
I spent the next decade learning about alternative healing modalities, as well as understanding the critical connection between our emotional health and disease.

Wellness Q&A with Jacqueline
What does a healthy work-life balance look like to you?
Taking breaks!
It’s easy to spend hours in front of a screen (whether it’s our computers or phones), so ensuring that we schedule time for breaks is essential in a healthy work-life balance.
This can be anything from taking a mindful walk or doing a quick 5-minute meditation.
How do you make sure you are regularly prioritising your mental and physical well-being?
This really comes down to discipline and ensuring that I’m sticking to my routine.
This routine includes not checking my phone within the first hour of waking up. Having an attitude of gratitude (especially for the small things like a cup of tea in the morning) and doing things that bring me joy.
I also place boundaries in my life so that I’m able to avoid the trap of comparison.
How do you show yourself self-love and self-care? Are there any particular activities you indulge in and what inner work do you do?
I have a running list of things I want to do or learn. Each month, I try to choose one and make time for it. Each of these activities is “mindless” in the sense that I become completely immersed in what I’m doing, like learning to play the guitar.
I think it’s important to recognise that self-care doesn’t have to be something elaborate. It can be practised in small things, like 5 minutes of stretching in the morning, a face mask, a good book, or a morning walk.

What is your favourite productivity hack?
Cold showers!!
This is how I begin each day. After a cold shower, my mind is clear and I’m able to stay focused for quite a while.
Which self-help or personal development book would you recommend and why?
Atomic Habits by James Clear.
This is probably one of the most comprehensive and practical guides on how to create good habits. It essentially teaches you how to accomplish more by focusing on less.
Something that I definitely used to struggle with.

What would you say to your 21-year old self?
Trust God with the direction of your life.
When things don’t go your way, realise that there is something better being crafted behind the doors you can’t see.
And lastly, what’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Your relationship with yourself is the most important one you’ll ever have.
