1 | Atomic Habits by James Clear
Just as the title says, Atomic Habits is all about habits. How to build good ones and break bad ones.
Since its release in 2018, Atomic Habits has become a life-changing million-copy #1 bestseller.
Now you might be thinking how can a book on habits be so popular?
And that’s because James Clear shows us that habit-building can be easy and fun. It’s not as boring or arduous as you might think.
Plus, by making tiny changes in the form of habits, you are setting yourself up to achieve remarkable results. What’s not to love?
Highlights
- Easy to read and digestible
- The contents of the book is laid out well
- Includes diagrams
- Summary at the end of each chapter
- Tips and advice are all extremely actionable
- I’ve previously written a review so you know it’s worth a read
- Million copy #1 bestseller
→ Price: £13 (paperback) with free delivery on Amazon
My thoughts
Atomic Habits has literally changed the way I view habits. I now build habits to work for me rather than against me.
And in all honesty, Atomic Habits was actually the motivating factor behind my blog.
Before I read this book, I was constantly comparing myself to others online and copying what other female entrepreneurs were doing to be productive. Long story short, the hustle culture didn’t work for me and I thought there was something wrong with me.
But when I read Atomic Habits, James Clear made me feel less alone. It wasn’t the fact that there was something wrong with me, it was the fact that these “productivity hacks from others” didn’t suit my personality.
So I applied his advice on building habits to my own work ethic. I then started to view productivity as unique to the individual and build it around my own personality and lifestyle.
My mindful approach to productivity was born and so was the basis of my blog. I wanted to show others that there is a more sustainable way of working and this is where it all started.
So yes, like the cover says, Atomic Habits is truly life-changing!
2 | The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday
Adopting a stoic practice in your life can reduce anxiety, help you avoid distractions and teach you gratitude. However, there’s so much written on Stoicism it can be hard to know where to start.
Ryan Holiday’s The Daily Stoic makes learning about Stoicism digestible and intentional.
This isn’t a typical book as it’s not split into chapters. Instead, The Daily Stoic is separated into a page-a-day ritual to make practising Stoicism more manageable. Each page features a powerful lesson or quote from the Ancient Stoics including Marcus Aurelius, the playwright Seneca and philosopher Epictetus, among others.
These thought-provoking observations help you “to tackle any problem, approach any goal and find the serenity, self-knowledge and resilience you need to live well.” (The Daily Stoic)
Highlights
- Includes 366 meditations on wisdom, perseverance and the art of living
- Features lessons from the Ancient Stoics including Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus
- Page-a-day guide; no need to read it all in one go
- It’s dated daily from 1st January to 31st December
- Daily doses of practical, uplifting philosophy
- From the best-selling author of The Obstacle Is The Way
- There’s a guided Daily Stoic Journal that accompanies the book to make it even easier for you to practice mindfulness
→ Price: £10 (paperback) with free delivery on Amazon
My thoughts
I haven’t finished The Daily Stoic yet as it’s a year-long process.
However, it’s already been incredibly life-changing for both me and my partner. It has positively impacted our minds in a way where we are learning to ignore the things we can’t control and focus only on what we can change.
So if you’re looking to cultivate more meaning and self-awareness this year, then The Daily Stoic is the best self-help book for you.
3 | Deep Nutrition by Catherine Shanahan M.D.
Deep Nutrition explores the link between diet and health.
It is a fascinating book that delves into the traditional diets of some of the world’s longest-lived and healthiest people. This book identifies four common nutritional habits that are key to good health: fresh food, fermented and sprouted foods, meat cooked on the bone, and organ meats.
These foods form the basis of what Shanahan calls “The Human Diet.”
This diet is based on the premise that we are designed to eat certain foods that have been around for millennia. These foods are not only nutritious, but they also have a positive effect on our overall health.
Highlights
- Voted as one of the Best Health and Wellness Books of 2017 by Sports Illustrated
- Written by physician and biochemist Cate Shanahan, M.D
- A self-published book
- A long and in-depth read but well worth it
- Deep Nutrition offers a prescriptive plan for anyone to begin eating The Human Diet
- Use The Human Diet to:
- Improve mood and eliminate cravings and the need to snack
- Boost fertility and have healthier children

→ Price: £11.25 (paperback) with free delivery on Amazon
My thoughts
I first came across Dr Cate Shanahan on a podcast episode where she discussed her work on nutrition and the long-term consequences of modern processed foods and seed oils.
A lot of the information she was discussing was new to me. But when I started my health coaching course there were so many parallels that I knew I had to do my own research. And so I bought Deep Nutrition.
Deep Nutrition cuts through today’s culture of conflicting nutritional ideologies, showing how the habits of our ancestors can help us lead longer, healthier, more vital lives.
This book will challenge you to question everything you have ever been taught about nutrition and diet so only read it if you are curious and open to new thoughts and ideas.
4 | Love Yourself Well by Lo Bosworth
Love Yourself Well by Lo Bosworth, CEO and founder of Love Wellness, is an empowering wellness guide to optimising your health on a holistic level.
The focus is on the connection between the gut, brain and vagina.
Lo and her board of health advisors and experts look to answer questions such as:
- How does my overall health affect my vaginal health?
- Is there a way to heal a leaky gut and leaky brain?
- Are there supplements and a diet to encourage body harmony?
- Is my body normal? What is normal when it comes to sexual wellness?

- Digestible and a straight-forward read
- A fun and engaging book with cheat sheets, diagrams and implementable tips
- Features quick and easy recipes for healthy meals
- I’ve just written a book review so you know it’s worth a read
- Written by the CEO and Founder of Love Wellness, Lo Bosworth
→ Price: £13.99 (paperback) with free delivery on Amazon
My thoughts
I’ve been a huge fan of Lo Bosworth since the Laguna Beach days and have been following her wellness journey since she first opened up about her own experience with chronic illness.
Lo is now here to “destigmatize the discussion about women’s health care” and I applaud her for it. It’s impressive to see a former reality TV star leverage her platform to raise awareness around health and wellness. Especially around vaginal health which is unfortunately not talked about enough.
This book explores vaginal health in a lot of detail and educates you on the connection between your brain, gut and vagina. So if you need to brush up on your vagina knowledge, then Love Yourself Well offers you a practical guide to follow.
Not only does it break down this complex organ, but it also includes helpful tips on what to avoid during sex (like certain types of sex toys and lube) and when washing your vagina, and what to expect when it comes to maintaining vaginal health.
5 | Menopausing by Davina McCall
Menopausing is slowly becoming the go-to self-help guide for women approaching or going through menopause. This book vows to approach menopause without shame, fear, misinformation or silence to start a movement and get women talking openly about menopause.
Not only does this book cover the physical symptoms and challenges bought on by menopause like a dry vagina, zero sex drive and hair loss, but Davina also talks about the emotional and psychological impact of menopause.
Davina shares her own menopause journey and experiences with anxiety, mood swings, and self-doubt, while also offering practical tips for managing your own menopausal symptoms. This book is informative, relatable and empowering with its overall message being clear all the way through – you can still live your best life during menopause.
Highlights
- A Sunday Times Bestseller
- Evidence-based facts and information
- Features stories from real women speaking openly about menopause
- Extremely well-designed, structured and researched
- Written by Davina McCall, presenter, fitness guru and author
- Currently available on hardback, on Kindle or as an audiobook
→ Price: £11 (hardback) with free delivery on Amazon
My thoughts
Ok I admit, I haven’t read this particular book as I am not currently going through menopause. But I do know a few women who have and they swear by this book.
Menopausing debunks myths, celebrates the sharing of menopause stories, enables women to feel less alone and more understood, and talks openly and positively about menopause.
6 | The Gospel of Wellness by Rina Raphael
From gyms, gurus and Goop to the false promise of self-care, investigative journalist, Rina Raphael takes a critical look at the $4.2 trillion wellness industry. She exposes the dark side of the wellness boom, from pseudo-scientific claims and deceptive marketing to the dangerous rise of “clean eating” and “wellness warriors.”
This book debunks some of the biggest players in the wellness industry including Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop showing us how these companies often prey on people’s fear and insecurities, selling them expensive products and services that often don’t live up to the hype.
Highlights
- An in-depth exposé about the wellness industry
- 12 examining chapters to get stuck into
- Extremely relatable if you struggle to fit into the current wellness standard
- Written with a critical eye, humour and empathy
- Based on Rina’s own experience with bizarre wellness trends
- Kindle edition available now
- Also available on Audiobook
→ Price: £16.99 (paperback) with free delivery on Amazon
My thoughts
I came across Rina Raphael at a recent webinar hosted by The Global Wellness Institute. And from the get-go, I was enthralled by her sceptical take on the wellness industry and its most bizarre trends.
After the webinar, I signed up for her Substack; Well To Do and pre-ordered this book.
I found it so refreshing to come across someone who is just as critical about certain viral trends as I am. So if like me, you’re also someone who can’t relate to the numerous wellness influencers on social media advertising their green juices and gym workout gear, then I recommend reading this book.
7 | Manifest by Roxie Nafousi
Including Manifest by Roxie Nafousi for all of you manifesting advocates out there!
Spread across 7 chapters, better known as “the 7 steps to living your best life”, Manifest shows you how you can harness the power of manifestation to attract anything you desire and deserve.
If like me, you find manifesting confusing or misleading, then this book sets the record straight and establishes exactly what manifestation entails.
Highlights
- A pocket-sized guidebook to manifesting
- The beautiful bright, orange cover will look good on any bookshelf or coffee table
- Extremely digestible and easy to read
- Clearly laid out
- Full of thoughtful quotes, questions and diagrams
- Includes plenty of guided exercises and journaling prompts

→ Price: £12 (hardback) with free delivery on Amazon
My thoughts
Although I have some reservations about manifestation in general, this book without a doubt will be the catalyst you need to inspire and motivate you to create the life you want.
There’s a great section on gratitude and self-love which you can use as a tool for cultivating a healthier relationship with yourself. And the pages on envy are super valuable for anyone looking to kick their “comparisonitis” to the curb.
8 | Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker
Why We Sleep is a fascinating read that will transform your appreciation of sleep. Matthew Walker explores twenty years of cutting-edge research to solve the mystery of why sleep matters.

My thoughts
Getting between 7-9 hours of good quality sleep a night is one of the best ways to practice wellness daily.
It’s simple and affordable but so many people still don’t get enough sleep. So whether you’re looking to get better quality sleep or just want to understand more about sleep, this book is for you.
Why We Sleep is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the science of sleep, and learn more about how to get a good night’s rest.
9 | Spoon-Fed by Tim Spector
In this eye-opening book, Spoon-Fed, Professor Tim Spector reveals the truth about some of the most commonly held beliefs about food.
For example, did you know that most diet plans are based on faulty science?
Through his fascinating research, Tim Spector challenges everything we thought we knew about food and nutrition.
He also provides practical advice for how we can change our relationship with food – not just for our own health, but for the health of the planet.

- Quick-witted titles
- Myth-busting chapters that keep this book interesting
- Easy and digestible
- The contents of the book is laid out well
→ Price: £6.99 (paperback) with free delivery on Amazon
My thoughts
Similar to Deep Nutrition, Spoon-Fed will challenge your perceptions of food.
It will make you think, not only about what you choose to eat but also about where the food comes from and the quality of it.
10 | The Wellness Syndrome by Carl Cederström and Andre Spicer
Similar to The Gospel of Wellness, The Wellness Syndrome explores the phenomenon of our ever-growing obsession with wellness.
Its authors argue that the ever-present pressure to be constantly “well” has started to have negative effects, making us feel worse and isolating us from each other.
The book follows the lives of health freaks who go to extremes to find the perfect diet, corporate athletes who start the day with a dance party, and self-trackers who monitor everything, including their own toilet habits.
Highlights
- An in-depth exposé about the wellness ideology
- A fast-paced and humorous read
- Only 200 pages
- Easy and quick to read
- Includes case studies and personal stories

My thoughts
I now write a lot about the dark side of wellness and enjoy debunking viral toxic trends.
And I have to admit, it all started when I came across this book.
It allowed me to challenge my own beliefs about the wellness industry and get comfortable with not fitting into the standard version of wellness I currently see on social media.
11 | Eliminate Negative Thinking by Derick Howell
Eliminate Negative Thinking essentially offers practical advice on how to overcome negativity and stop overthinking. Spread over 10 chapters, this book shows you how you can better understand your thoughts, clear your mind and practice self-compassion.
It’s all about helping you find long-term solutions for negative thinking. Rather than just temporary fixes such as indulging in drugs and alcohol or distracting yourself from your thoughts.
There’s also a big emphasis on how to control your negative thoughts by shifting your focus towards positive thinking, self-acceptance and self-love.
Highlights
- Easy to read and digestible
- The contents of the book are laid out well
- Summary at the end of each chapter

My thoughts
For someone who encourages self-kindness and grace, this book really resonated with me and gave me the comfort and support I needed to overcome my negative thoughts.
It also taught me two of the most important mental well-being practices that I still follow to this day:
So I 10/10 recommend giving this book a read!

So if you’re in need of supporting your digital well-being and building healthier digital habits then read Digital Minimalism. It’s just the book you need to take back control of your devices.

Rather, it is a liberating path to sanity, and to loving the body you have right now which is exactly what we need right now.
15 | In The FLO by Alisa Vitti

→ Price: £15 (paperback) with free delivery on Amazon
My thoughts
Since the beginning of my wellness journey, I’ve been making a more conscious effort to put myself and my mental health first. And this has had an effect on how I treat my period. I no longer allow my period to dictate how I feel or control my actions.
Instead, I’m learning more and more about how I can work with my cycle rather than against it.
And this has led me down the path of cycle syncing – aligning my lifestyle and habits with each phase in my menstrual cycle.
I’m not an expert at cycle syncing quite yet, but adjusting my diet, exercise and productivity to my cycle has helped me to better manage my period and has actually made them a lot more bearable.
So if you’re looking to also get started with cycle syncing and maximise your biochemistry then learn from the master herself and invest in this book which provides you with all the information you need.
