Journaling is an extremely powerful practice.
It allows you to capture your thoughts, tap into your emotions and reflect on past experiences.
By making journaling a daily habit, you can develop a greater sense of self-awareness, reduce stress and overwhelm and cultivate more meaning and mindfulness in your daily life.
But journaling can also be a daunting ritual to start. I mean, where do you even begin?
That’s where guided journals come in. Because they provide you with a starting point by giving you a specific question or topic to reflect on.
So turn this self-care practice into a daily journaling habit with these best 5 reflective journals.
What are the best reflective journals?
Journaling daily can be a powerful tool for self-reflection, personal growth and mindfulness.
By reflecting on our emotions, thoughts, ideas and past experiences, we learn to understand ourselves better. We can begin to identify patterns in behaviour, become aware of our own needs and get clear on the areas that need improvement.
But blank page syndrome is REAL, and it can be challenging to know what to write about or even where to start.
So if you’d prefer some structure and support during your journaling practice over free-hand writing, then I highly recommend using a reflective journal with guided prompts. Not only will using guided prompts help you to reflect more deeply and meaningfully, but they will also make this ritual easier for you to get into the habit of doing.
With numerous reflective journals available on the market, it can be overwhelming to choose just one. So to make your buying process less stressful, I have narrowed it down to just 5 options.
So, let’s dive deeper into each one of these reflective journals and break them down further:

My thoughts
One of my most recent intentions has been to learn more about stoicism and to start adopting a stoic approach to life.
Adopting a stoic practice in your life can reduce anxiety, help you avoid distractions and teach you gratitude.
It is a life-changing ethos and one that has positively impacted my mind in a what where I now ignore the things that I cannot control and focus only on the things that I can change – like my own thoughts.
This journal is an extremely valuable tool, and I recommend it to anyone.
The Daily Stoic is a year-long process, and so this dated journal is intended to be used daily. This is extremely beneficial if you are looking to develop an in-depth and meaningful daily journaling habit. But if you struggle with consistency, then you might find yourself falling behind if you end up skipping a day.

My thoughts
Ok, so I wasn’t a huge fan of Manifest by Roxie Nafousi, but I have a thing for journals, and this one is no exception.
The design is stunning, with a sleek cover and high-quality paper that feels great to write on. Plus, not only will it effectively support you on your self-development journey but it is also aesthetically pleasing.
It’s clear that a lot of thought and care went into the creation of this journal. I particularly appreciated the focus on self-love as, as a female entrepreneur, it can be challenging to cultivate motivation and self-belief. This reflective journal provides practical steps to help you embrace self-love as well as to let go of self-judgement and self-sabotaging thoughts.

My thoughts
Wellness looks different for everyone.
I’ve built a blog on this message because I know how unique and personal wellness is to our own individual needs.
And that is also true for journaling. Not everyone is going to want to journal daily – and that’s completely ok.
Build a journaling habit that works for you.
So, if you’d prefer to build a weekly journaling habit rather than a daily one, then this journal is for you.
It has just the right number of journal prompts to inspire you each week and enough to last all year.
How to build a daily journaling habit
In theory, journaling is a pretty straightforward activity, as all you need is a notebook and a pen.
But to make your practice even more intentional and consistent, follow these top tips for building a daily journaling habit.
1 | Establish your intention
Whenever you start something new, it’s important to establish your intentions first.
To do this, figure out what type of journaling you want to do.
This could be free-hand journaling, where you simply brain-dump all of your thoughts. Maybe you want to get into the habit of practising gratitude in the morning. Or it might simply be using a range of journal prompts that help you dig deep into certain areas of your life.
2 | Find a gap in your schedule
Taking care of yourself through journaling can be extremely beneficial, but it doesn’t have to be time-consuming to be effective.
In fact, your journaling practice can be as short as 5 or 10 minutes long. So find a gap in your schedule where you are most likely going to be free, e.g. as soon as you wake up, after lunch or before you go to bed, etc. and commit to your journaling practice.
I also recommend putting your journaling time in your calendar!
Writing anything down makes it more tangible and real, plus you are less likely to double book yourself if you know you are supposed to be journaling at that time.
3 | Set an alarm
It’s a fact that we are more likely to do something if we have a trigger to prompt us.
So set an alarm at the time when you’re most available during the day and say to yourself, “Ok, it’s time for me to journal.”
Using an alarm to prompt you into taking this time for yourself can be an effective way to establish a consistent routine and turn journaling into a habit.
4 | Use one of the above reflective journals
As I explained earlier, it’s a lot easier to know what to journal about when there is a question or topic to prompt you into writing.
So, instead of staring at a blank page and feeling put off by journaling, use the guided prompts from one of the above reflective journals.

What is the difference between a reflective journal and a gratitude journal?
There are two popular types of journals to use when journaling: a reflective journal and a gratitude journal.
Both of these journals include guided journal prompts to help kickstart your writing, but they also have different focuses and purposes.
A gratitude journal provides you with specific prompts that allow you to write down things you are grateful for each day. It is a simple way to practice gratitude and cultivate a more positive mindset.
Each day, you can write down a few things that you are grateful for, such as your health, your relationships, your work, etc. or anything else that brings you joy and appreciation.
A reflective journal, on the other hand, is a type of journal that provides general prompts or questions to guide your writing. A reflective journal may have a theme or focus such as health and wellness, goal-setting or creativity, but overall, they are broader.
The prompts within a reflective journal are designed to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences more deeply and to gain insights into yourself and your life.
Final thoughts
Reflective journaling promotes self-care.
When you journal, you are building a deeper connection with yourself.
You are committing to self-awareness, self-reflection, and self-compassion, and these are essential tools for supporting your personal growth, mental health and overall well-being.
So, get started today and become your “best” self with these reflective journals:
- The Daily Stoic Journal
- Core Values Journal by BestSelf
- The Untethered Soul Guided Journal

Thanks so much for this! I was sold on the idea of keeping a reflective journal after reading a friend’s post ([Link deleted]if you’re interested!) but I really wanted a journal that would prompt and lead me into reflection. I’ll be looking into these ASAP. ❤️
