PSA: You don’t need to wake up at 5 am to have a productive morning.
It comes down to the habits you choose to engage in as soon as you wake up.
For that reason, morning routines will come in all shapes and sizes.
It’s not always about waking up at the crack of dawn and going on a 5 km run. It can look like naturally waking up at 9 am, drinking a glass of water and planting your feet on the floor to ground yourself.
Your morning routine is supposed to make you feel good. Not add more stress to your day.
So build a set of habits that best reflect your needs and what season of the year you’re in. Yup, that’s right — morning routines aren’t supposed to be the same all year round.
As the seasons change and the weather adapts, so does your productive energy.
This is especially true in summer.
The sun, heat waves and the temptation of outdoor fun can all contribute to low productivity and focus. (I mean, hands up if you’ve ever wanted to ditch work in favour of heading to the beach.)
By optimising the first hour of your day, you set a positive tone, making sure that no matter what happens next (e.g. change of plans, dehydration, etc.), you know your morning didn’t go to waste.
Here are 101 productive ideas to add to your morning routine this summer.
Perks of having a morning routine
I’m a huge fan of the morning routine.
Not only does it set you up for a more successful and productive day, but it also supports daily self-care as it helps you to establish a healthier work-life balance. (And you know I’m all about self-care.)
My current morning routine allows me to feel grounded and start my day on the right note — a stress-free one.
I wake up with a mindful ritual that encourages me to set an intention and ease into the day. This is then followed by a gratitude practice, a 40-minute swim and a 30-minute beach read.
These simple but powerful habits support my daily well-being and boost my overall productivity. So no matter what happens for the rest of the day, I can stay positive knowing my morning didn’t go to waste.
Other major perks of having a morning routine include:
- Reduced morning stress and anxiety
- Starting the day on the right foot
- More structure to your day
- More energy
- Improved mental clarity and creativity
- Increased productivity and focus
- Commitment to building healthy habits
- Having a reason to wake up and kickstart the day

Productive morning routine ideas for other seasons
It’s important to remember that morning routines aren’t meant to be the same all year round.
As the seasons change and the weather adapts, so do your needs. So don’t force yourself to stick to a morning routine that works well for you in spring and summer but not in autumn and winter.
Think about adjusting your routine depending on the seasons, your mood and energy or what life situation you find yourself in.
Here are a few productive ideas to keep in mind for Autumn, Winter and Spring.
Autumn

- Listen to a guided meditation on Activations™ to boost motivation
- Switch up your morning reading and listen to an audiobook
- Watch an inspiring TED Talk
- Head on a morning woodland walk and savour the sound of crisp leaves under your feet
- Pinpoint what your work-life balance will look like for you today

Final thoughts
Just like with all of my frameworks and tips, I suggest testing out these morning routine ideas first before fully committing to them.
The trick is to find out what works for you.
Put together a tracker to help you visually see which morning routine ideas you enjoyed and which ones you wouldn’t do again.
Rate each ritual out of 5 stars and ask yourself, “How did this activity make me feel?”
Yes, a productive morning routine can set you up for a more successful day, but you never want it to feel like a chore.
Otherwise, what’s the point?
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to building a productive morning routine, so choose rituals that you actually enjoy and not because everyone else is doing them.
Besides, if you build it in this way, you’re more likely to stick to it.
Do what feels good for you, always.
You’ve got this,
Thalia xx
