101 Things To Be Grateful For Beyond “My Family” and “My Health”

TL;DR: I’ve been practising gratitude daily for years, and let me tell you—it works. It shifts your mindset, boosts your mood, and helps you appreciate the little things. From belly laughs and sea breezes to morning routines and self-care, I’ve listed 101 things to be grateful for. So next time you feel stuck, this list has your back.

For the past 4(ish) years, I’ve been practising gratitude every morning.

I wake up, brush my teeth, read for half an hour and then list 3 things I’m grateful for. It’s a mindful morning routine that has not failed me once.

Finding gratitude every day has become an essential part of my wellness journey.

When I wake up in a funk, it’s important for me to remind myself of all the good things happening in my life. No matter how tedious that thing might be, like being grateful for a warm bed, being healthy or having access to clean water.

It’s essential that I don’t take these things for granted and, instead, learn to appreciate the simple joys of life.

So to inspire your own gratitude practice, I’ve listed 101 meaningful things to be grateful for today, tomorrow and every other day.

The perks of practising gratitude

Practising gratitude has become a bit of a buzzword lately.

Successful entrepreneurs swear by it, and wellness influencers vlog about it.

Although I’m not a fan of viral trends, practising gratitude is one that I hope sticks around. Purely because showing appreciation for things can greatly improve your outlook on life and make you happier in the process.

Because isn’t that the goal? To be happier.

When you practice gratitude, not only are you inviting more happiness into your daily life, but you are also opening yourself up to plenty of other shifts, including:

  • Being more optimistic about life
  • Getting into the habit of focusing on the positives rather than the negatives
  • Feeling more grounded, confident and in control
  • Easing stress and overwhelm, especially on Mondays
  • Boosting your overall mental health and well-being
  • Experiencing more satisfaction in life and feeling more fulfilled
  • Developing a new-found appreciation for life’s simple pleasures
  • Forming a deeper connection with yourself, your surroundings and others

And it is super easy to get started with, too, as there are no rules to it.

All you need is a notebook and pen, some space in your daily schedule and plenty of things to be grateful for.

How to practice gratitude daily without it feeling tedious

As someone who’s been listing things that make her smile since 2020, I can confirm that practising gratitude can sometimes feel a little tedious. I mean, how many times can you be grateful for the roof over your head?

It can feel a little silly sometimes.

That’s why I’m forever switching up my practice. It doesn’t always look like filling in my gratitude journal (shoutout to Intelligent Change for creating the best one yet). Some days, it looks like writing a gratitude list or repeating an affirmation to myself in the mirror.

I’ve also experimented with gratitude themes and doing it in different locations.

Here are my top 3 tips for practising gratitude without it feeling tedious or getting boring.

P.S. I encourage you to save this post (like now!!) so you can come back to it whenever you need to.

1 | Set your intention

When starting anything new, it’s important to first set an intention.

Don’t just practice gratitude because it’s the popular thing to do. Practice gratitude because you actually want to change your mindset and live a more positive life.

Setting an intention will help you establish the overall goal of your gratitude practice while also making your practice seem less tedious. (Because you’re doing it to achieve a specific outcome.)

2 | Mix it up

Don’t practice gratitude in the same way every day because then it might start to feel tedious or, worse, boring.

My gratitude practice doesn’t always look like writing in my journal. It’s sometimes as simple as choosing one thing about my mind or body that I’m grateful for.

So, mix it up and find other ways to practice gratitude.

Changing the way you do things might also inspire you to find new things to be grateful for, so it’s basically a win-win.

Hot tip:

Try theming each day you practice gratitude. For example, today, list down 3 physical things you’re grateful for. Tomorrow, list down 3 people you admire and are thankful for. Wednesday can be a health-inspired day where you list down 3 things you’ve been grateful for on your wellness journey.

By giving each day a theme, you can focus on that area and make your practice easier.

3 | Turn your gratitude practice into a ritual

Practicing gratitude should never feel like a chore; otherwise, what’s the point?

You don’t want to end up resenting the one exercise that will encourage you to be more optimistic and passionate about life.

Make your gratitude practice something you look forward to by turning it into a mindful ritual. Light a candle, put on some music, or even head outside and do it in nature.

You’ll be surprised at how designing your environment to work for you will help inspire you.
